Timothy Judd’s Violin Studio
I welcome students of all ages with both Suzuki and traditional backgrounds. The students I teach range from beginners to advanced players. For younger students I am an advocate of the Suzuki method. Developed by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki after the Second World War, this method is founded on the premise that all children are born with a natural ability to play and enjoy music. The development of the ear, strong parental involvement that fosters an environment of praise and encouragement, and daily practicing and listening to music are all key to the method. Suzuki observed that children learn to speak language effortlessly simply by hearing the language spoken by others and imitating. He discovered that the musical ear can be developed in the same way.
Students can begin violin lessons through the Suzuki method as early as the age of three. The parent attends their child’s weekly violin lesson, takes notes and becomes the child’s teacher for daily practice sessions at home. I also provide two group classes a month where students perform together, gaining motivation and inspiration from one another. More information about the Suzuki method can be found at the Suzuki Association of the Americas website.
